The International Resource Panel (IRP) recently released a major study, Resource Efficiency & Climate Change, examining the potential reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from increased use of material efficiency strategies. Material efficiency represents another “wedge” in climate mitigation—with potential for reductions in GHGs in addition to those arising from renewable energy and energy efficiency. This talk presents the results of an extensive review of policies conducted as part of the IRP study that can encourage or inhibit adoption of material efficiency strategies.
