Environmental Metrics

A continuing need in the transition to global sustainability is the lack of suitable metrics with which to measure progress.  Two efforts in the past year contributed to this topic.  In the first, MES student Megan Shane and Professor Graedel collaborated on a set of metrics for evaluating the environmental performance of urban areas; a paper on this work has been submitted for publication. In the second, Professor Graedel served on a National Research Council committee on corporate environmental performance metrics; the results of this work were published in book form by the National Academy Press.
